SPOKESPERSON MESSAGE: October 2022 Newsletter

Osiyo ginali! (hello, friends!)

We’re in for a busy fall, and I’m very excited to share some of what we have in store!

At the end of this month, on October 29th, we’ll be having an in-person meeting and potluck at Valhalla Mobile Estates in West Sacramento. Please see our newsletter and our events page for more details.

This is going to be a pretty important meeting. We’ll be holding elections for 3 council seats whose terms expire this month. If you’re interested in getting more involved please reach out to us! We’d love for you to get involved. During the meeting, we’ll also be approving revisions to our bylaws. Our current bylaws and the proposed revisions are available for our community to review on our website. We encourage any feedback or thoughts that you may have about the changes.

It’s still in the planning process, but I’m excited to announce that the All Nations Native Craft Fair is returning after a 2 year, pandemic-related hiatus! More details to follow, but it’ll be on December 10 this year at Creative Connections Art Academy in North Highlands. Please stay tuned for more vendor and program information.

In this month’s newsletter, you won’t want to miss my photo essay about my 2-week trip to Cherokee Nation this past April. Mike Webb shares the story behind his copper gorget, and you’ll also find photos from our August campout in Pine Grove.

Recently, the Cherokee Nation has been pushing for the US government to honor its treaty promise to seat our selected delegate, Kim Teehee, to the US House of Representatives. You can learn more about this effort by watching Cherokee Nation’s video. We have written to our local Congressional representatives asking them to join Cherokee Nation’s efforts to seat our delegate. We want to encourage you to do the same!

That’s it for now. We hope to see everyone at our meeting later this month!
