Looking for Cherokee Genealogy?

Did you know there is a group of dedicated Cherokee genealogy researchers willing to provide research for free on Facebook? For those who are looking to verify Cherokee ancestry or learn more about their family lines, this group is available to you!

The mission and goal of this group, CHEROKEE INDIANS - RESEARCH/GENEALOGY (The Spider Web of Cherokee families), is to provide free research specifically to find possible Cherokee ancestry. They do not do "general genealogy" once this mission and goal has been achieved.

The group has implemented strict rules in order to manage their hundreds of requests. Follow these to receive free research! We’re grateful for their dedication to helping verify Cherokee lineage.

To request research, add your name as a comment to the monthly Research Signup List that is posted to the group in the beginning of the month. A post dedicated to you, with your name, will be created within the following days that you will need to respond to within 24 hours.

In the post dedicated to you, you will need to provide the full name and date of your direct relative believed to be Cherokee, born between 1890 and 1940 (no exceptions), along with the city and state where they lived, and the names of spouse/children/siblings. If you are a Cherokee tribal citizen of one of the three federally recognized tribes (Cherokee Nation, United Keetoowah Band, or Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians), let them know in your request.

There are additional rules to follow that can be viewed on the Facebook group, such as being respectful, accurate, and communicative. The group does not accept invites and the membership question must be answered when requesting to join.

Reminder: anyone without a profile picture will not be accepted. If anyone wants to invite friends to the page please send them the link to the page and they can request to join. Invites will not be accepted.
