CHAIRPERSON MESSAGE: November 2024
ᎣᏏᏲ ᏂᎦᏛ osiyo nigad! (hello, everyone!)
We enjoyed our multiple events this fall including our membership meeting and election, complete with many fun rounds of chunkey thanks to the generosity of CNCV member Gerrit Fenenga who gifted us a beautiful chunkey stone he carved. It was a beautiful day for community and games! We also enjoyed second language intensive, an informative and historical field trip to the town of Cherokee, and our virtual meet and greet with our Sister City Marble City Activity Organization.
Also in this month’s newsletter, we introduce our newly elected board members, dive into processing acorns to eat, share resources available for at-large citizens, reflect on the name restoration of our sacred site Kuwohi, and board member Mike Webb shares a profile on Barbara and Ray Warren who were instrumental in the original CNCV Board.
As we plan events for 2025, let us know what types of activities or topics you’d like to see. Contact us here. We have some wonderful events scheduled with additional dates being announced soon!
Mark your calendars now for our biggest events of the year:
Cherokee Nation Community & Cultural Outreach Annual Meeting and Chief's Picnic on Sunday, April 27. We are excited to visit with our Principal Chief and other Cherokee Nation representatives. We expect that Registration will also be on site to provide photo ID cards for registered citizens. There will be plenty of fellow Cherokees to visit with and crafts for the kids!
CNCV Annual Campout held August 1-3.
The CNCV also has a resource webpage for you with many informative links for citizenship, language, culture, history, health, education, veterans, and more. Let us know if you'd like to see something specifically there.
We hope to see everyone at our events next year!
